Barceló Nasandhura Malé is a five-star hotel on Malé's north waterfront, a sixteen-storey tower opposite the Henveiru ferry terminal. Barceló Hotel Group opened it in 2025 on the site of the original Nasandhura Palace, which stood here from 1981 until 2015. It is now the largest hotel in the city.

GETTING THERE

Velana International Airport is a ten to fifteen minute drive over the Sinamalé Bridge, and the airport ferry runs from a terminal nearby. The hotel can arrange airport transfers.

THE ROOMS

There are around 250 rooms, suites and serviced apartments across seventeen categories. Standard rooms are 28 square metres, the Junior Suite Ocean View adds a separate sitting room at 56 square metres, and the range runs up to the 87-square-metre Presidential Villa and a penthouse. Most rooms face the sea, many with a balcony, and all have a green feature wall, teak furniture and a Nespresso machine. Family Rooms sleep four, and there are two and three-bedroom apartments for longer stays.

FOOD & FACILITIES

The hotel has three restaurants and two bars. Oivaru is the all-day buffet, Alimas Cafe & Lounge off the lobby does coffee and light meals, and B.Heaven is the rooftop bar for mocktails and shisha; there is also a Chinese restaurant and a pool bar. No alcohol is served, as Malé is an inhabited island. The hotel also has a spa, a gym, the rooftop pool and over 1,000 square metres of event space across two ballrooms and meeting rooms named for the atolls.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

This is the working harbour end of Malé, a jetty front rather than a beach. Republic Square, the Islamic Centre and the fish market are a walk west along the shore, and the artificial beach is a short walk east. The Sinamalé Bridge to the airport is in view from the upper floors.

BEST FOR

Business and conference travellers, anyone who wants a five-star base in the city itself, and first or last nights near the airport with a pool and a sea-view room.
